I purchased a small case lithium 16 cell in May 2013 to help with the starting on my bike. It’s a custom chopper with limited space and this appeared to be the answer. Before I explain, let me just say that the battery cranks my S&S motor like no other battery I’ve ever had!
Now, the first battery didn’t crank like I expected. It would tend to hang on the compression stroke when cold like most older Harleys, but would really spin after it got over the first compression stroke. I thought this battery would have completely eliminated that problem for me but version 1 did not. I ran it for exactly one year, having to put the charger on it frequently and help it get over the compression stroke manually when cold (roll it, dump the clutch, 3rd gear, hit the starter button at the same time…). I should have sent it back immediately.
Then a year later when trying to get it started one day I killed it. Had to put the charger on and left it for about 30 minutes. Came back to find that it exploded in my battery box: the case separated and came apart. I sent it in for warranty. After sending it in I found that it was not covered and I had to pay for half the price for a replacement. I had hoped that warranty would have covered an obviously defective battery but not in this case.
I purchased the replacement and another new one at the same time. The new one cranked the motor over like it was a lawnmower motor, even when cold. This was what I expected the first time around. Since then I’ve had no issues and it starts the bike better than ever.
When I sent the blown battery in for warranty and inspection, they suggested I send my 8amp charger along with it (purchased at the same time for that battery) just to make sure it was not the cause of the exploded battery. The charger was fine. When I finally received my replacement battery however, there was no charger with it. I called, explained, and they sent out another charger. Not my 8 amp charger though: a 4 amp instead. I called, explained, and they sent out another. A few days later I received another 4 amp charger! I called, explained, bitched a little, and was sent another charger. It finally arrived and was the correct 8 amp charger. It took just over a month to get my replacement battery and correct charger back to me. That experience could have gone a hell of a lot smoother, I think.
I’m sure my case was not entirely typical however, and I doubt most people have that much trouble. In the end I would, and will, purchase all my MC batteries in the future from these guys. Even though I got screwed a bit on warranty and lost a bit of time with the confusion, this Antigravity 16 cell is the best battery I’ve ever had in any of my bikes. If you have a custom chopper with limited space and some motor work, you really can’t go wrong with one of these.

I was excited to try a high powered, light-weight lithium battery for my 2001 Ducati 996 and decided to go with Antigravity (http://antigravitybatteries.com/). They’re made in the US and seemed to have a good warranty. I looked for reviews, but at the time there weren’t many available so I went ahead with my purchase. To summarize, in about 2 years I went through 4 Antigravity batteries and spent about $400.00. Here’s my personal experience for anyone that might be considering them.

    12/05/11 – I paid $195 (179.99 + tax)
The original purchase of an Antigravity 8 Cell (YTZ7-8) from Motostrano Redwood City, CA.

    01/03/12 – I paid $43 upgrade to an Antigravity 12 Cell (YTZ10S-12)
I realized that the 8 Cell battery wasn’t powerful enough to turn over my 996 effectively, so I paid for an upgrade. I understand that this was my fault because I didn’t read the spec’s carefully enough – according to Antigravity the 8 cell battery is “capable of everyday use in bikes up to 600cc”.

    10/12/12 – I paid $75.00 for another upgrade, 12 Cell to 16 Cell.
9 months after the upgrade, I noticed that the upgraded 12 Cell battery started to perform poorly and I was having difficulty starting my 996. Shortly thereafter, the 12 Cell battery completely died and wouldn’t hold a charge at all so I returned it to Antigravity for testing. The technician claimed finding no obvious damage and didn’t provide an explanation why it wouldn’t hold a charge. I thought that perhaps even the 12 cell didn’t have enough power to start my bike repeatedly over a long period of time so I paid Antigravity the purchase price difference to upgrade from the 12 to 16 Cell (the YTX12-16, retails for approx $289.00 + Tax)

04/01/14 – I paid an additional $91.00 for a warranty replacement on the 16 Cell.
The 16 cell battery died and wouldn’t hold a charge so I returned it to Antigravity for testing. Again, the results were that there was no verifiable damage and no reason why it didn’t hold a charge. Antigravity didn’t offer to replace the battery at no charge so I paid the fee for a warrantee replacement. In my case I was given a 75% discount as per the 3 year warranty plan (6-12 Months — 75% discount from retail MSRP)

I should note that I ride my bike about 3 times a week for an hour or two under normal road conditions. I live in reasonable weather here in Northern California and I don’t race it. The charging system was tested to be normal around October 2012 by Nichols Sportbikes in Milpitas (who are awesome btw :). Also, I didn’t opt for the $120.00 charger that Antigravity sells and am of the opinion that a battery should last more than a year if you operate it normally – especially at those prices!

Personally, I’m going back to a regular battery after my experiences with Antigravity and Lithium batteries.

Installed the 16 cell small battery and so
far it has worked very well. The battery looks
and feels like a very high quality unit.
I like the fact that it is so small that my
    1998 Honda VFR800 has lost 8 pounds.
The CCA of 410 is amazing!
    Expensive but well worth it.
